A.L ■ Cisco arguably sets the highest standards for vendor excellence in enterprise B2B. What does a best-in-class customer experience look like through your lens? What are the milestones?
R.M ■ A great customer experience is really understanding your customer. The exciting thing we get to do at Cisco is that we have 17 different products: we have different architectural segments, and we look at them through a lifecycle racetrack methodology, where we map our customers across what's really relevant to them, what's really important, and what values really stand out for them. We'll even build frameworks within frameworks. We look at specific products and the use cases behind why a customer bought them.
Then we have this value acronym. We want to make sure we're Validating the customer. Creating Awareness across their organization. Looking at the Learning tools and resources we have to accelerate them. We're also measuring Utilization—and we actually define with the customer what consumption looks like, rather than just looking at telemetry and insights.
And then our biggest one is the E, which stands for Embed. If we ripped it out tomorrow, would the customer feel the impact on the business? That's the thing that sets us high in class, really—that's how you set a standard of excellence.
A.L ■ What's the Cisco perspective on why Planhat has had a 100% success rate helping partners pass the advanced CX audit in the last year?
What we're seeing in the industry right now is that customers want to do more with less, but they also want visibility into their taxonomy and their assets. They're getting into this journey with us to make sure they're getting more value out of what they've purchased.
Especially with the size of the partners Planhat is working with, one of the biggest things is being able to replicate that process and scale it. That's what Planhat is really looking at. Cisco has been focusing hard on that too, with our different product architectures and how we scale use cases. If we have the insights to look at and measure these things—with a great company like Planhat, working with our partners—it only drives that consistency forward.
One of my favorite quotes is: wherever you see consistency, you know a system's in place. And that system is what we're seeing with Planhat as they build more agentic AI capabilities. That's what we're driving toward more of in the industry.

A.L ■ What's unique about the way Planhat delivers value to a Cisco partner?
R.M ■ The relationship model, and especially the acceleration of customer outcomes. It's exciting because of what Planhat is doing—not only in this new segmentation of AI, but in verticalization, in specific outcomes, in segments. As Cisco grows its technology base, it becomes that much more important to see what Planhat is doing in the partner space, especially from a localization standpoint.
Planhat having an office in London and an office in Stockholm matters. We have some of our biggest customers and Cisco partners in EMEA, and that's something that's so relevant today.
A.L ■ What's Planhat's core role in helping partners increase adoption, retention and attraction—all the things Cisco is preaching?
R.M ■ Really the acceleration. Cisco recently launched a product called Cisco IQ, a self-serve portal where customers can look at their contracts, their taxonomies and their insights, but also at how they can accelerate their verticalization, especially with AI. It's interesting, because what we're seeing is that customers want more visibility. They want to be part of this journey with us.
I think Planhat is doing an excellent job of being able to have that journey with the customer. With a partnership where Planhat is potentially looking at integrations with some of our Cisco partner technology, that's only going to increase and really set the standard for other companies.
A.L ■ Is there anything that stands out about Planhat—the product, the team etc.—versus the other companies and vendors you work with?
R.M ■ What I see with Planhat is that they really walk the talk of helping to accelerate outcomes for their customers. I'm on site today with the Planhat community, and it's just a really great relationship. I think they're going to go above and beyond and make sure it's that great experience we're all looking for.

A.L ■ The Cisco 360 programme emphasises customer outcomes, which is something Planhat has always preached. What's the benefit to you and your partners of focusing on outcomes and results, rather than on miscellaneous processes?
R.M ■ Especially in the digital resiliency era we're in right now, customers want to do more with less. They want to make sure that what they've purchased is giving them the outcome they were looking for.
I think of this example. Cisco is a networking company. One of my bosses asked me once, “Why do you like using Wi-Fi?” I said, “Well, because I can connect in remote places, I can do this, I can do that.” And he said, “Well, what if it's just because you don't like using the wires in the wall?”
And I thought—that's so simple, but it's a focused outcome that I don't really have awareness around.
That's what we're starting to look at. We're trying to get to the simplicity of business outcomes: this is what it's going to do for you, and this is why you bought it. And we're seeing that more and more, especially as we transition out of customer success. In customer success, we can tell you usage, telemetry, insights and data—but did we really focus on the outcome you were looking for?
I see Planhat doing that. I know Cisco is doing that as well. Having great companies doing that together is a win-win.
A.L ■ Cisco's framework revolves around people, process and tooling. What do those mean at Cisco, and how does Planhat map onto them?
R.M ■ It's a great three-step process.
With people, we want to make sure we have the right people sitting in the right seats to drive those outcomes. So we look at the segmentation of our business, and at how we scale to reach more people.
With process, what we really want is data governance and a system in place, where we're asking how we build a one-to-many approach with customers—product overviews, getting started with our products—but also how we run one-to-one engagements where we're really handholding some of our customers.
And then we look at our digital tools, where customers can get curious and start navigating things themselves. When you start doing this across different product architectures, you almost end up with customer success managers externally talking about the Cisco product.
When you think about a partner you work with inside an organization, they're a trusted ally—you start focusing on each other and on how you both become successful. That's what Planhat is starting to integrate with some of our Cisco partners: this is something you can really ease into, but it also accelerates your business model.
When you combine all three of those things, that's how you set up a framework to be successful in any technology segment—or through any change in the market.
A.L ■ If someone wants to get Cisco certified and deepen their relationship with Cisco, why would they pick Planhat to do that with?
R.M ■ It's really the transformational experience you'll have.
Right now at Cisco we're in this era of AI where everyone is looking to build as fast as possible. As we work with more of our customers, they're asking: how can we look at third-party integrations? Obviously with Cisco we want to make sure we're practicing security experience and that we're optimal when it comes to our integrations.
Planhat is doing an excellent job of looking at different tools, and at practicalities, to make sure partners are successful just as much as Cisco is successful. As we expand that network, especially with partners, one of the things Planhat gives them is access and tools to do that from a security layer—but also to make sure that as customers look at their whole infrastructure from a CRM and customer success perspective, they still have access to the tools they've already bought from Cisco.
And on getting certified—there are so many certifications right now. I just finished my AI practitioner certification through Cisco. If you want to get more involved in those things, getting curious is kind of the answer.

A.L ■ Planhat is increasingly positioned to do effective multi-vendor customer experience and management. How should a multi-vendor partner think about Planhat when they're trying to maximise their status as a Cisco partner?
R.M ■ One of the things I've seen, working with different SaaS companies, is that they try to replicate processes in a custom environment—building their own CRM tracking, their own visibility. What ends up happening is that as they build it out, it becomes so custom-built that when customers raise their hands and say they want a ServiceNow integration, or they want this visibility, you go to your QA team or your product team and they say, “We can't really unbuckle what's happening.”
That's why it's so efficient to have a custom interface but also that visibility from a Planhat perspective, where they're already thinking ten steps ahead. As your business grows and scales—especially into new customer segmentations and verticalizations—Planhat is already thinking about that.
Even in this era of AI: every leader wants to do AI, but they're still trying to get involved. That's what Planhat is already planning for, which is exciting. If you think about it, customer success was a term ten years ago where every company knew they needed it but was still trying to fully optimize it. We're in that same moment with AI. Every company knows they need it, but how do they fully optimize it?
And Planhat is already saying, “Oh yeah, we're already working with these vendors, we're already working on this question that's coming up.” If they're already thinking about that, and our partners know it's important—let's start talking, and let's start creating things together. Because this is the era of building.

A.L ■ What's the benefit to Cisco of partners delivering best-in-class customer experience and customer management?
R.M ■ When you think about supply chain and infrastructure at Cisco, we work with our partners very deeply on the actual architectures we have. When you think of the hardware and the software, our partners are maintaining some of the key relationships we have with end customers. If a customer needs help with deployment, or with managing their infrastructure, we work with our gold standard partners to manage that so we can scale.
As we look at that scale piece, and as we work with more partners, Planhat gives that visibility and optimization to really accelerate those business processes. Partnership is critical and important to keep expanding and growing—especially when you look at the Cisco partners we have today and the success they're having with Planhat. It's an incredible opportunity to keep scaling.
A.L ■ What are the defining factors of Planhat as part of the Cisco ecosystem?
R.M ■ I work with a lot of different people at Planhat, and they're an amazing company to work with. But the differentiator is the relationship-based model you're going to have with Planhat—and also being innovative and creative. If you want an already built-out process that's never going to change, I don't think you're going to get very far.
They're going to go above and beyond for you, and you're going to make some great friends while accelerating and overcoming your adoption barriers.
A.L ■ What would you say to someone sitting on the fence about using Planhat—to achieve the advanced customer experience certification, for example?
R.M ■ Just get started. Honestly—start getting your feet in.
It's like when people say, “Well, I want to start building with AI, but I don't know where to start.” Well, start. It's not one of those things where you're going to be an expert tomorrow. You've got to get involved, you've got to get your hands wet, you've got to really start doing things. Planhat gives you the ability to be a creator within your CRM environment.
The minute you get started, you start learning at an exponential rate, and you get things going in your business.
